Christmas Adventures
What we did Christmas season 2024.
In the 10 days leading up to Christmas, we joined a Viking River Cruise from Regensburg to Budapest and enjoyed a magical experience filled with festive cheer. We would recommend this to anyone. You'll enjoy beautifully decorated Christmas markets in towns along the Danube, savor traditional holiday treats, and explore historic sites adorned with seasonal decor. Highlights include beer tasting in Regensburg and Passau, and visits to Vienna, known for its iconic Christkindlesmarkt, the Lipizzaner horses, and coffee.
Ending with the stunning architecture of Budapest, where the city lights up with holiday spirit. This time it even provided a Beautiful Hallmark story snowfall one evening.
While onboard, guests can indulge in festive dining and entertainment, making it a memorable holiday journey. But try not to indulge too much as it makes it hard to enjoy the local foods and beverages at the markets.
For these winter river cruises, you'll want to pack layers of clothing, including thermal base layers both upper and lower, and warm sweaters. A very warm waterproof jacket and comfortable waterproof walking shoes or better yet hiking boots are essential for exploring ports. The cobblestones are brutal on the feet. Don't forget accessories like scarves, gloves, and hats to keep warm. The Boats do have larger umbrellas for your use.
There is nothing quite like wandering the Christmas Markets to get into the Christmas spirit. They are a magical place to wander and enjoy yourself.
All the provided tours are very well done with excellent tour guides and the only complaint was received from a fit adhd person who suggested they could speed things up a bit.
This was our fourth adventure with Viking and we are already looking to put another group together, they are that good.
Cheers to great travel adventures,
